Purpose:
Welcome to the National Physiotherapist Assistant Assembly (NPAA) of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
The NPAA represents the unique interests and needs of practicing and student physiotherapist assistants in Canada and is actively engaged in the growth and advancement of their roles in the physiotherapy profession.

The Role:
The chair leads the Assembly and ensures that affairs are carried out in accordance with CPA policies and represents the committee at all relevant CPA meetings and/or functions as deemed necessary.
The chair ensures that the Assembly is responsive to opportunities to collaborate with the CPA and its components in areas of national importance related to the Division Assembly Chairs Committee (DACC).
List of Primary Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in the planning, organization, and operation of the Division activities.
- Provide leadership in the annual development and quarterly review of the committee’s work plan, ensuring all responsibilities are reflected and obtaining input from committee members and CPA.
- Chair committee meetings, facilitating active participation by all members and ensuring appropriate time is allocated to each agenda item and all items are brought to a suitable resolution.
- Mentor the Chair-Elect to be prepared to assume the role of Chair for succession planning.
- Summarize committee discussions, and state any committee action items, decisions, or timelines, before moving to the next agenda item.
- Ensure the committee holds the number of meetings required to complete its annual plan.
- Attend semi-annual in-person meetings, when necessary, with the DCC, to review proposed agendas and participate in the committee’s discussions and deliberations.
- Hold, as appropriate, separate discussions with the Committee, CPA and DCC Chair to inform about committee concerns. Provide direction of required follow-up actions.
- Report to the DCC Chair and CPA on the activities of the committee, including committee discussions, recommendations, and resolutions.
- Review draft minutes to ensure their accuracy prior to their approval by the committee.
- Develop knowledge of the subject matter and of best practices related to the committee’s mandate and share knowledge with committee members.
- Provide committee members with feedback and coaching regarding their participation and performance on the committee and identify any associated training and development requirements.
- Preparation of the annual operational plan and budget in collaboration with CPA staff.
Considerations and Qualifications
- Active member of the CPA
- Reading, writing, and editing skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Passion for the physiotherapy profession
- Experience with committee engagement and participation.
- Vulnerable sector check required.
